Captain America Comic Book Essentials
If you’re planning to take out some comic book subscriptions, then you might want to consider getting Captain America comics.
With the distinctive shield in front of him, you can’t fail to recognize this iconic superhero. Before you start collecting the comic books, however, here are some essential questions you need to ask:
1) Who is Captain America? – The more famous bearer of the shield is Steve Rogers, a soldier brought to the peak of human perfection via the injection of a super-soldier serum.
Prior to the use of the serum, Steve Rogers was a frail and scrawny artist who was rejected by the army. However, the serum transforms Rogers into the nearly perfect human being almost instantaneously, endowing him with a body that could perform feats that surpass Olympic athletes today.
The current Captain America comics feature a new captain: James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes, who was formerly Captain America’s sidekick. Bucky has extensive martial arts training under his mentor.
He has also worked as a covert soviet agent, during which he was able to hone his skills in espionage and assassination. He has a cybernetic left arm which can discharge electric bolts. However, he does not have Rogers’ super soldier abilities.
2) What’s with the shield? – There are different varieties of Captain America’s shield. However, the most common shield that the Captain uses in the comics is one made out of a mixture of Vibranium and another alloy. The Vibranium in the shield allows it to absorb vibrations, allowing it to be indestructible.
Captain America’s proficiency with the shield is legendary – he is able to hurl the discus-shaped implement with deadly accuracy. His ability is such that he is able to hurl the shield and hit multiple targets at once.
3) The Villain – Captain America’s Arch-nemesis is the Red Skull, Johann Schmidt. To date, he is considered to be one of the Marvel Universe’s truly frightening superheroes. With Nazi, communist and terrorist roots, the Red Skull is an expert strategist and political genius.
He has been shown with the same fighting abilities as Captain America and has the inventiveness of Doctor Doom. Truly, he is one of thepeople you should always look out for in Captain America comics.
