The golden age of comic books is the period between 1930’s and 1940’s, when comic books experienced a sudden rise in popularity. Lots of different comic books first debuted during this period. The largest comic book companies today also had their breakthroughs during this time.
Golden age comics are valued because they represent a period when the comics industry started being taken seriously. The golden age was when comics became revolutionized as an art and literature form. This means that each comic produced during this age is a part of history.
Another reason why golden age comics are so popular lies in the fact that the iconic superheroes of today made their debut during the period. This includes, Batman, Superman, and Captain America, among others.
Golden age comics, especially issues featuring the first appearances of iconic characters are among the most valued in the world, with some worth over 2 million dollars.
Another reason why these comics are so highly valued is their rarity. Because they were produced quite a while ago, a lot of the comics have already been lost. Most have given in to the wear and tear of time.
There is also the fact that, considering the humble beginnings of the comic book companies, there were only a few copies printed. Of course, when the companies became bigger, there have been reprints, but the reprints aren’t as valued as the originals.
Another reason for the value of golden age comic books lies in the care that collectors bestow upon it. Collectors take very meticulous care of their collections. As mentioned before, golden age comics are very old and they are therefore quite fragile.
