Collecting Marvel Books
There used to be a time when marvel books were frowned upon as being for kids. However, this is not that time. Today, comic book collectors come from all age groups, with the more serious collectors coming from the high-income bracket. If you want to get into collecting Marvel books, then you need some tips:
1) Collect with passion – if you get into comic-book collecting simply to make some cash, you’ll most likely end up failing. Truly serious comic book collectors are usually composed of people who are truly passionate about the comics. When you do so, you’ll be better able to appreciate the value of Marvel books.
2) Know your comics – if you plan on collecting marvel books, then you need to know which ones are the most valuable, why they are valuable and how much they are estimated to be worth.
One such book is Marvel #1, the first issue of Marvel comics, estimated to be worth at $330,000. Another valuable comic book is Captain America #1, valued at 125,000 US dollars! By learning which books are the most valuable, you should be able to learn which comics are the best investments.
When you learn enough about which comics are valuable, you won’t even need a list. You’ll just notice that valuable comics tend to have certain factors that make them valuable. For example, pre-silver age comics tend to be more valuable than silver age ones.
3) Condition – the condition of the Marvel book in question often affects its value. This is the reason why most collectors buy two of every issue –one to open for reading and another to collect.
Taking care of the comics should be a priority, as a book’s value goes down drastically if it is damaged n any way. Some collectors go to the extent of purchasing special storage equipment to prevent environmental damage to the books.
But apart from money, what other reason would there be to collect Marvel books? Well, you should realize that collecting comics is so much more than an investment: it’s a form of honoring the brilliant concepts of other people and keeping track of the origins of characters we look up to today.
